Interview with the Robot.

I had the surreal pleasure of interviewing Ameca, one of the world's most advanced humanoid robots, at The National Robotarium on the Heriot-Watt University campus.

I talked to her about disinformation and deepfakes and the twin role of AI in helping create and exacerbate the problem - and in addressing it.

We talked about the responsibility of social media platforms and how to address disinformation and deepfakes through legislation, regulation and technology – and how to make better choices about how we curate our online lives.

Hear some of Ameca's thoughts at a conference I've shaped and which I'm hosting next Thursday (September 26th) on behalf of The Scotsman and Data-Driven Innovation Initiative at Royal College of Physicians on Queen Street, Edinburgh: Disinformation, Deepfakes & Democracy.

There's a great interview with the fully human (and brilliant) tech analyst Stephanie Hare and we'll hear from Olga Tokariuk about how Ukraine is responding to Russian disinformation - as well as Oliver Escobar on creating different and better online discussion spaces. Tuğrulcan Elmas will talk through a personal experience in trying to call out false claims on X/Twitter and we'll also talk about Nudge Government, facial recognition technology & public trust in data. Fancy it? Link.
