Video production

I am increasingly involved in producing high-quality video content. After a detailed initial conversation with a client, I produce a script/storyboard and work with an experienced videographer (usually Phil Wilkinson or Andrew Mulligan) to record interview footage and B-roll - then collaborate to shape the final edit and create a compelling final product. I have produced videos for clients from a variety of sectors, including the law, education, skills, and rural affairs.

Recent projects have included:

A Future in the Forest - in 2025, we produced a video on the first Forestry Operations New Entrants Programme, which won the Building Industry Resilience prize at the annual forestry industry awards. We were asked to produce a second film, of the 2026 course, which was massively over-subscribed - with all the applicants interviewed saying they had found out about the course through the video from 2025.

Elaine Motion: A Life in Law (2025) – this video tells the compelling story of one of Scotland's best-known and most respected legal figures of recent times, to mark her retirement from Balfour+Manson.

Scottish Woodlands: Moving on from the Lost Forest - this short film goes behind the headlines to explain what really happened at a woodland site on a hillside near Aviemore.

It's All About The Children: Fair Funding For All Scotland's Nurseries: this involved detailed planning to carry out multiple interviews across 4 different locations in Scotland and a complex editing process working with a variety of stakeholders. The client, the 2020 Together Group, was very happy with the final product, which it has deployed as part of a fair funding campaign. The videography by Andrew Mulligan on this project was outstanding.

I've recorded several other videos for Scottish Woodlands Ltd, including Tipperty: A Case Study in High-Quality Woodland Creation in Spring 2025 - a longer,  detailed version for the client and industry, and a short version suitable for social media. I also did a rapid turnaround video for SWL at the Royal Highland Show - filmed on day 1 and online before day 2 began.

I’ve also worked with law firm Balfour+Manson to produce short 'explainer' videos, to answer client questions that come up repeatedly - including this one from spring 2025 on Powers of Attorney.
