I'd forgotten the time that I was cut off in my prime by Jimmy Hill on the BBC.

It was a discussion programme Is English Football in Crisis?, in 1993, and for some unknown reason, a few clips - including one of me - resurfaced on Instagram a couple of weeks ago. They were passed on to me, and took me back to a time I was heavily involved in football supporters' politics, and had a full head of hair.

It brought back a lot of memories, and a lot of thoughts, three in paricular:

• Concerns about the concentration of crazy sums of money in football have been around for a very long time, and the basic conversation hasn't changed much. If you watch the full programme, David Dein, former co-owner and vice-chair of Arsenal, parrots the usual guff about uber-wealthy owners being fans too. It's not that hard to see a continuous line to the lovely Gianni Infantino;
• Back in 1993, I would have watched this on the telly-box, and video-d it, and I maybe watched it back once or twice with friends or relatives feigning interest. There was no chance to share the clips - once it was gone, it was pretty much gone and I hadn't seen it for 33 years. If the BBC hadn't archived it, and it hadn't gone onto the interweb, I'd probably have never seen it again;
• Memory plays tricks with you - I remember being on TV and radio, and at meetings with the FA and Premier League, quite frequently around this time - but I have no firm recollection of this particular show, or my bizarre accent.

For those of a certain vintage, you will realise this is a pretty stellar (and very male) cast of football luminaries (and me). It would be impossible to do this now, as people's schedules wouldn't allow it.

If you watch the whole thing, you might spot another clip of me wearing ridiculous outsized glasses that I didn't really need.

Simpler times. Or not.
