Journalist and DLME associate Peter Ranscombe has been named Business Writer of the Year at the 2024 Highlands & Islands Awards.

He scooped this year’s prize for his articles in The Press & Journal newspaper’s monthly supplement, The Business.

The judges said that in a hotly-contested category, Peter's winning entry stood out with "beautifully crafted pieces addressing national issues from a local perspective".

Peter won the business category back in 2022 and reached last year’s final too. He also triumphed at the 2022 Wincott Awards, when he was named Journalist of the Year: Nations & Regions for his articles in The P&J.

He was also “highly commended” in the Local/Regional Journalist of the Year category at the 2023 Headlinemoney Awards for his personal finance column in Scottish Field magazine.
Peter’s Scottish Field column has also landed him on the shortlist for the Wincott Awards and the British Journalism Awards in recent years.

David Lee, founder and director of David Lee Media & Events, said: “I started working with Peter 20 years ago at The Scotsman newspaper. He's a much better writer than me now, but his jokes are still far lamer than mine.

“More seriously, having a multi-award-winning journalist like Peter on the team is a key part of tailoring our media training to each clients’ needs.

“Myself and Peter – along with fellow working journalists on the squad, including Nick Drainey – can tailor our questions to suit each bespoke scenario, so interviewees face the types of questions real reporters are likely to ask.”
